Metronome

Count the beat of my chest
in his presence.
Palpitate gazes
salty with desire.

Measure the seconds
passed into years,
the What Am I Waiting Fors,
fear of impatience

or patience, too long.

Add time and take time
And leave me to day:
the future that runs from me,
the now that won’t stay.

Beat Meets Boy

Through the soft gym floor
the young boy
senses
adults, shuffle, fear a threat,
try to keep kids calm

They sing, they stomp
"we will rock,"
refrain opens
spaces in the room.
a whispered note
hands him control,

he holds
power chords formed to
warm his limbs and
slow his pulse and
calm his thoughts until

he knows,
forever,
He chooses Music.
